The Tea Hut is a business name of J2O Consulting Pty Ltd (ABN 15 137 908 019). In this policy, "The Tea Hut", "we", "us" and "our" mean J2O Consulting Pty Ltd trading as The Tea Hut.
We respect your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.
1. What information we collect
We collect personal information that you give us, including when you place an order, create an account, subscribe to our newsletter, leave a review, enter a competition or survey, or contact us. This may include:
- your name, email address, phone number, and delivery and billing addresses;
- your order history and any notes or preferences you give us;
- your account login details;
- reviews, photos, messages and feedback you send us; and
- your marketing preferences.
We also collect some information automatically when you visit our website, including your IP address, device and browser type, general location (for example, city or region), the pages you view, the products you add to your cart, how you arrived at our website (for example, from a search engine, social media or an ad) and the actions you take on our website. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies (see section 5).
You can browse our website without giving us your name or contact details, but we need certain information to process an order or create an account.
2. Payment information
Payments are processed by our third-party payment providers, including our card payment gateway, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Afterpay and Zip. Payment details are sent to these providers using secure encryption. We do not see or store your full card details. If you pay with PayPal, Afterpay or Zip, that provider will also handle your information under its own privacy policy.
3. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- process, pack and deliver your orders, and send you order and shipping updates;
- manage your account and respond to your questions, requests and complaints;
- process payments and help prevent fraud;
- publish reviews you choose to submit;
- send you marketing emails, if you have subscribed (see section 4);
- run competitions, surveys and promotions you choose to take part in;
- understand how our website is used so we can improve it, our products and our service;
- measure the effectiveness of our advertising and show you relevant ads (see section 5); and
- meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
4. Marketing emails
We send marketing emails (such as new teas, offers and news) only to people who have subscribed to our newsletter or otherwise agreed to receive them. Order confirmations, shipping updates and other service messages about your order are not marketing and will be sent regardless.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email, or by contacting us using the details in section 12. We use Mailchimp to manage and send our emails.
5. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels and tags) to:
- keep items in your cart, keep you signed in and make our website work properly;
- remember your preferences;
- understand how visitors use our website (using Google Analytics); and
- measure the results of our advertising and show you relevant ads on other websites and apps, including through Google Ads, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Microsoft Advertising (Bing).
Enhanced conversions: when you place an order, we may share a hashed (scrambled and encrypted) version of your email address with Google so that Google can match your purchase to an ad you clicked. Hashing means Google receives a code rather than your readable email address. This helps us measure our advertising accurately. Google uses this information in accordance with its own policies.
Your choices:
- You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block all cookies, parts of our website (such as the cart) may not work.
- You can manage the ads Google shows you at Google My Ad Center, and opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- You can manage Facebook and Instagram ad preferences in your Meta account settings.
- You can manage Microsoft advertising preferences at Microsoft's ad settings page.
6. Reviews and recent-purchase notifications
If you submit a product review, your review and the name you provide with it may be published on our website. Our reviews are collected and displayed using Fera.
Our website may show notifications about recent purchases (for example, "Someone in Perth just bought…"), using ProveSource. These notifications do not show your full name, address or contact details. If you would prefer your purchases not to appear in these notifications, please contact us.
7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run our business, including with:
- our ecommerce platform (BigCommerce), which hosts our website, customer accounts and order records;
- payment providers (as listed in section 2);
- Australia Post, to deliver your orders;
- email, reviews and website tools, including Mailchimp, Fera and ProveSource;
- analytics and advertising providers, including Google, Meta and Microsoft, as described in section 5;
- our professional advisers, such as our accountant, bookkeeper and lawyers; and
- government authorities or others, where required or authorised by law, or where needed to prevent fraud or protect our rights.
We require our service providers to handle personal information securely and only for the purpose of providing their services.
8. Overseas storage and disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. Your information is likely to be held in or accessed from the United States, and may also be held in other countries where these providers or their data centres are located. Where we use overseas providers, we choose established providers that maintain appropriate security and privacy practices.
9. How we protect and keep your information
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Our website uses secure (HTTPS) encryption, and access to customer information is limited to people who need it to do their job.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, including to meet tax, accounting and legal requirements. After that, we delete it or remove identifying details.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required by law.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You can view and update most of your details by signing in to your account. You can also ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account, by contacting us using the details in section 12. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first, and in some cases the law allows or requires us to refuse a request. If so, we will explain why.
11. Complaints
If you have a concern or complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details in section 12. We will look into it and respond, usually within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
