Certified Organic
Choosing certified organic tea gives you greater confidence about how an organic product has been produced, handled and represented.
The Tea Hut is certified by Southern Cross Certified Australia (SXC) and undergoes an auditing process to maintain our organic certification.

Independently Certified & Audited
Southern Cross Certified Australia independently assesses certified operators against applicable organic certification requirements. Maintaining certification involves ongoing compliance and regular auditing.

What Does “Certified Organic” Mean?
In Australia, organic certification provides an independent system for checking that certified products and certified operators meet recognised organic requirements.
Certification covers more than the ingredient itself. Depending on the operation and certification scope, requirements can extend to areas such as production, processing, handling, storage, transport and labelling.
Independent Verification
Certification provides independent verification rather than relying only on a business making its own organic claim.
Traceability & Handling
Certified operations are required to maintain systems and records that support the integrity and traceability of certified organic products.
Ongoing Compliance
Certification is not a one-off claim. Certified operators are subject to ongoing requirements and auditing to maintain their status.
Organic vs Certified Organic
There is currently no mandatory requirement for all organic products sold domestically in Australia to hold organic certification. However, businesses still need to comply with applicable food-labelling requirements and Australian consumer law, and a product described as certified organic must actually be certified.
At The Tea Hut, products that we sell as certified organic are clearly identified as such on the website. Our wider range also includes selected conventional and wildcrafted teas and herbs, so we recommend checking the individual product description when choosing.
Southern Cross Certified Australia (SXC) is currently listed by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as an approved certifying body for organic and bio-dynamic goods.
The Tea Hut undergoes the certification and auditing process required to maintain our certified organic operation.
How to Identify Our Certified Organic Products
Look for the words “Certified Organic” in the product name and description. This makes it easy to distinguish certified organic products from conventional or wildcrafted products in our wider range.
